A faded cigarette sign on an out of business deli along Second Avenue

Most people have probably forgotten the ubiquity  of cigarette advertising, and perhaps it is different in tobacco country than it is in New York City.  The only place one sees advertisements for cigarettes today are on the doors of down market delis and bodegas.   Once upon a time, a Marlboro sign was a common as sunshine, now they are a fading icon.
